Bambora is a historic fort town situated at the cross road of many interesting destinations in Rajasthan. It is about 50 km from Udaipur. Major point of attraction here is the Bambora Fort, situated atop a cliff. It has been converted into a heritage hotel, at the same time preserving all its antiquity and glory. An excursion to the Jaisamand Lake and the famous 'Ruthi Rani Ro Mahal' or a horse safari to the tribal areas will be an exciting experience. Nearest airport is at Udaipur (35 km). Bambora can be approached by road from Pali, Sirohi, Udaipur, Bhilwara and from various destinations in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Udaipur City Railway Station is the closest railhead.Soon after the death Emperor Aurangzeb, the Sisodias of Udaipur took the opportunity to launch an attack on the Mughal powers that were crumbling slowly but steadily. It was in 1711 AD when Maharaja Sangram II of the Sisodia dynasty fought a fierce battle against the Mughals on the banks of River Khari. A young warrior from Salumber named Sawant Singh played a major role in guiding the king's forces to victory. Pleased with his services, Sangram II granted Sawant Singh a huge fiefdom along with the grand fort of Bambora. Today, Bambora is the gateway to a number of interesting destinations in Rajasthan. The main attraction of this small hamlet is the fort that has been tastefully converted into a luxury heritage hotel for discerning travelers.
