Sungailiat Hotels

Sungai Liat is the island's second city and is just 50kms north of the capital and main gateway, Pangkal Pinang. The town is actually quite pretty and well laid out and has some striking beaches and good hotels. It's worth spending more time here than in the capital.There are beaches up and down the coast from Sungai Liat, but two in particular stand out. They are Matras Beach and Parai Tenggiri Beach. Matras is nine kilometers from town in Sinar Baru village and is the best on Bangka Island, with fantastic swimming, bathing and solitude. Parai Tenggiri Beach is a bit smaller, busier and more developed.. Sungai Liat is 50kms north of Pangkal Pinang and is accessible by bus in about 90 minutes. Flights land at Pangkal Pinang Airport in 60 minutes throughout the day from Jakarta, while ferries arrive at Sungai Liat from Pangkal Pinang. Hydrofoils also terminate in Mentok (on the west coast of Bangka Island) from Palembang in South Sumatra in 3 hours.
