Shima is a city located in Mie Prefecture, on the island of Honshu, Japan. The city was formed on October 1, 2004 by the merger of all five towns (Ago, Daiô, Hamajima, Isobe and the former town of Shima) from Shima District, which was dissolved by the merger. As of 2008, the city had an estimated population of 56,758 and the density of 316 persons per km². The total area is 179.67 km². This city has two bays, Matoya Bay and Ago Bay. Matoya Bay is famous for oyster cultivation and Ago Bay is famous for pearl cultivation. Both of them are sightseeing spot and Shima is Ise-Shima National Park.This city has three inhabited islands; Watakano Island, Kashiko Island and Masaki Island. Watakano Island is located in Matoya Bay, and the others are in Ago Bay.
