Mukdahan capital of Mukdahan province, became Thailand's 73d province in 1982. Located in the northeastern (Isan) region of the country, on the banks of the river Mekong, it was formerly as district of Nakhon Phanom Province. The population of the city was 100,000 in the year 2000. Welcome to Mukdahan Travel Guide, extensive source of tourist information and travel services offer related to Mukdahan and Thailand. Please visit Thailand travel guide for more travel and tourism iformation and attractions in the Thailand. On the banks of the Mekong, directly opposite the Lao city of Savannakhet, Mukdahan is one of the region's prettier towns. Known for its riverfront Talat Indojin (Indochina Market), which stretches under as well as along the riverfront park, Mukdahan is mainly a trade centre and on weekends, when the market really kicks off, you'll wonder how the locals manage to find time to do anything but trawl the Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Lao stalls. The December 2006 opening of the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge 2 formalised Mukdahan's status as a trade hub, but the city has not gone bridge crazy like Nong Khai did when that Mekong span was planned, and Savannakhet has reaped most of the economic reward
