Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is a commune of the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region of Southern France. In addition to Saint-Cyr itself, the commune includes the villages of Les Lecques, a port and beach resort, and La Madrague, a small port. The town square of Saint-Cyr contains a replica of the Statue of Liberty donated by Frederic Bartholdi, sculptor of the original. Saint Cyr sur Mer is on the Cote d'Azur, north-west of Bandol and Sanary-sur-Mer. Originally several villages that have now 'merged' into one town, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer comprises several different points of interest for the visitor. Hence the ports of Les Lecques and La Madrague are considered part of the community. Les Lecques is also the region with the main beach resort. The coastal setting for Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is very attractive, backed by a mix of pine forests and vineyards. It is a pleasant town with an interesting selection of highlights, including some Roman ruins displayed at the Museum of Tauroentum (showing the vestiges of a Roman villa) in Les Lecques. The mosaics are the highlight of a visit. Perhaps the most curious highlight is found in Place Portalis - the 'mini Statue of Liberty', which is an exact replica of the New York statue, but smaller and coated in gold. It was made by the same sculptor as the original, Bartholdi. There is an attractive path along the coast that runs from La Madrague in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and on to Bandol, and a shorter marked walk also from La Madrague which takes you through the vineyards and countryside. The sandy beach in Les Lecques is of course a hive of activity in summer, with many nautical activities available (although there is a parking charge to visit). One nearby coastal highlight is the Calanque of Port d'Alon (although access is limited in the summer).
