Saint-Florent is a small town on the French island of Corsica. St Florent is a bustling, colourful resort measuring ¾ ml N to S and E to W with 1,500 inhabitants, St Florent calls to mind a St Tropez of bygone days, with its yacht marina and typically Mediterranean tableau of sprawling quayside cafe and restaurant terraces. This area is upmarket and middlemarket holiday-makers, particularly those with a liking for yachts and water sports. It offers a small but eclectic choice for all types. St Florent is located on the NW coast, at the beginning of the Cap Corse peninsula (14 mls W of Bastia and 27 mls NW of its airport, 44 mls NE of Calvi and its airport). St Florent is positioned within the deep, wide Gulf of St Florent, at the mouth of the sleepy River Aliso, with beaches stretching out either side and a backdrop of steep, wooded hills embracing a narrow, cultivated valley with vineyards. During the daytime typical holiday activities are based around the the beach and water sports, including diving, sailing, sea scooters and kayaking, paragliding. Other activities include cycling, tennis, horse riding, exploring the old town, including the citadel, church and cathedral, or simply strolling along the quay and ogling the yachts. There are many local shops, these are mainly souvenir outlets and boutiques for tourists, and 1 small supermarket. The evenings bring a choice of bars, cafes and restaurants on the port and around the central square. During the summer there is a music festival popular with tourists... There are plenty of relaxing restaurants, including creperies, pizzerias and a few intimate options tucked away in hidden corners. The cuisine is mainly fish and seafood, particularly lobster caught locally, and are frequented by the yachting fraternity. Many Ice-cream parlours are dotted around the town.
