Corby Until the early part of the 20th century the stone-built village of Corby consisted of a few treetssurrounding the beautiful old church of St. John the Baptist. However, in the 1930s the vast local reserves of iron ore were tapped and Corby rapidly became a boom town and a symbol of the age of eel.Workers moved to Corby from all over the country and the towns rnaces produced huge quantities of steel and tubes for the worlds markets. In the 1980s the closure of the iron and steel making departments devastated the town but new industries, such as the Oxford University Press, RS Components and Avon Cosmetics, have moved in to take their place.
