Cabourg, France
Cabourg? You better know these days as one of Normandy's seaside resorts, Cabourg, in its time witnessed the historic departure of William the Conqueror in 1066. In more recent times, towards the end of the last century, the seaside resort came into its own as the fashion for bathing swept Europe, led by no less a figure than the Empress Eugenie of France, wife of Napoleon 3. This resulted in the flowering over side villa along the coast line and the building of the first Casino Grand Hotel. Marcel Proust immortalised Cabourg as the town of Balbec in his book « Within a Budding Grove » which he wrote looking out the sea from his rooms in the Grand Hotel.

Cabourg to day has retained all the style and charm of the Belle Epoque, whilst at the same time offering an exceptionally wide range of sporting and leisure activities.
