The Highest Place in Thailand
Nope, the highest place in Thailand is not a skyscraper in Bangkok, it is a mountain in Chiang Mai called Doi Inthanon. By world standards, it is not a high mountain at 2,565 meters. But it is impressive nevertheless. In the cool season, from November to Februray, the view from Doi Inthanon are the best. It will almost always be cold at the top of the mountain during this time of the year, or really any time of the year for that matter. So, come prepared with coat or a sweater. The highest peak of the mountain is often shrouded in mist. At the bottom of the mountain are three waterfalls and the road up to the top has some upland argriculutre at the sides of the road and once inside Doi Inthanon National Park it becomes heavily forested. Doi Inthanon National park is a top destination for biologists, bird watcher and wildlife enthusiasts. The slopes of the mountain are abudant with unique vegetation and perhaps 400 or more species of birds. Here also can be found the Asiatic Black Bear, Assamese macaque, leaf monkeys, gibbons and an abundance of other wildlife.
