Mellow Khao Lak

Khao Lak Beach (Hat Khaolak) is a popular destination for visitors to Thailand especially for those wanting to get away from the more developed beach resorts like Phuket or Samui. Khao Lak has great sandy beaches and clear blue water. Khao Lak was one of the worst hit areas in the 2004 tsunami. Today it has been restored to the point where tourism is operational once again. North of Phuket, Khao Lak is a long, scenic beach with smooth boulders. Diving and snorkeling is one of the main attractions. A great coral reef lies about an hour away by boat. Other diving options include trips to the Similan and Surin Islands. Khao Lak has Bang Niang as a neighbour. A smaller beach, Bang Niang offers fewer facilities in terms of accommodation, internet cafes, etc. but has bags of charm and a very relaxed atmosphere.
