Bursa is a city in the Asian part of Marmara Region, . Bursa lies in the northwestern part of Turkey near the sea of Marmara. The city was the first ever capital of the Ottoman Empire. It's the fourth largest city of Turkey after Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. It is famous for its peach, chestnut and silk industries, although lately, heavy industry located in the outskirts of the city, have surpassed these traditional industries. As it was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, it has a lot of historical places to see. Furthermore, Uludag -one of the highest mountains in the Turkey - lies very close to Bursa and is the main winter sports center of Turkey. Sprawling off the slopes of Uludağ (Great Mountain), Bursa may seem at first glance like a purely modern metropolis. In fact, as the first capital of the Ottoman Empire (during the 14th century), the city can be considered the birthplace of modern Turkish culture. Its innumerable ancient buildings, including those of the old spa suburb of Çekirge, a centuries-old tourist draw, are a reminder of Bursa's weighty past.Today, automobile and textile factories provide the majority of local jobs, and there's affluence in abundance. The local government maintains an admirable record of environmental and progressive initiatives.Besides its rich history, Bursa is renowned in Turkey for the Bursa, or skender, kebap – döner kebap on a bed of fresh pide bread, topped with tomato sauce, yogurt and melted butter.
