Quang Ninh province is the north- east of Viet Nam. To the north, Quang Ninh borders China for a 170 km stretch; in the south, it borders Hai Phong and Lang Son Province to the west. The city of Ha Long is in fact divided in to West Ha Long, Bai Chay and East Ha Long, Hong Gai. Ha Long Bay has many favorable conditions for tourism development and currently offers various kinds of tourism, such as sightseeing, bathing, research and water sports. In the future Quang Ninh Tourism will develop new and attractive types of tourism and new resorts. It is forecast that Quang Ninh will become the biggest tourist destination in Vietnam by 2010. “Ha Long” is literally translated as "Bay of Descending Dragons." Prior to the 19th century, this name was not recorded in any document or archive. Ha Long Bay spread over the emerald waters of the Gulf of Bac Bo, the legendary Ha Long Bay covers the regions of Ha Long City. The bay involve 1,969 islands of various sizes, 989 of which have been given names .Ha Long, one of the World Heritages, UNESCO recognized 2 times in 1994 and 2000, comprises thousands of big and small islands.
