Vung Tau belong to Ba Ria – Vung Tau province ,lies in the East to the Southern Vietnam.Ba Ria-Vung Tau province lies in a very advantageous position, which is a gateway to the Pacific Ocean of provinces in the East to the Southern Vietnam. It converges a lot of potentials to develop quickly and thoroughly sea economy such as offshore oil and gas industry, sea ports and sea transportation, tourism, sunbathing. Due to its positive position, the province is capable of developing synchronically sea route, air route, roads, railway and tubes. It can also be the place where goods are transferred inside and outside the country. To most tourists, however, Vung Tau is more interesting for its extensive beaches. Tourists often prefer sightseeing at Front Beach but go swimming in Back Beach. Back Beach is well-known for it's over 10 km of fine sand. As Vung Tau is only 130 km away from Ho Chi Minh City, it is a favourite resort destination for those wishing to get away from the city. In recent times, the number of foreign tourists visiting Vung Tau's beaches increased.Vung Tau is also home to one of Vietnam's most well-known golf courses. In 1979, Vung Tau was broken away from Dong Nai and merged with the Con Dao islands (formerly part of Hau Giang Province), forming the new Vung Tau- Con Dao “special zone”. Later, in 1992, Ba Ria was also broken away from Dong Nai Province, merging with Vung Tau-Con Dao to form the modern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.Located in the 90km southern part of Vung Tau, Con Dao Island has a dense forest, which is Con Dao National Park with rich flora and fauna. The sea in this area is home to various valuable marine species. Especially, tourists have a chance of watching the turtle laying the eggs. It also used to host a convict prison during French colonial era, and later, during the American War.
